Today I was laying in bed when Grandma (aka Reese) was fixing food for me from her play kitchen. Most kids want to be the mom or the baby when playing house right? Not Reese. She wants to be the Grandma. And it cracks me up. every. time. Anyways, I asked "Grandma" to turn off the lights and the second I did I remembered that she is way too short to reach the lights. But before I said anything she said yes! So I decided to just lay there and see if she would try and tell me she couldn't reach, as I expected. But the opposite happened. She tried and realized she couldn't so she went and got a chair, which was twice her size and took her way longer to haul that thing over than it would have taken me to go switch the light down, but she turned that switch down all by herself. I was so proud of her for just "getting the job done."
Sometimes, I feel like the easy way out is by making up excuses. But it seems like there is always a way of just getting the job done. It may be harder or take longer but you can do it. I learned this lesson when I was a new wedding coordinator in Provo, UT. The owner, Becky, taught me this lesson. She would always say, "Just get it done. I don't care how you do it." That enabled me to be creative and learn how to do a whole slew of things that I am grateful I now know how to do.
