Homeschool January week 1

Our first half of the year went pretty smoothly. I am really happy with what the kids are learning and how they are so independent. We did a mid-year show and tell with friends and it was very evident what our strengths and weaknesses were. SO we made a few adjustments for the new year and they seemed to work really well this week. This is was our learning week looked like:

SCRIPTURE 
Reese// Copy work favorite scripture + written thoughts in scripture journal

Nixon// Copy work favorite scripture 

MATH
Reese// A lesson a day. Finding equivalent fractions by multiplying by 1, prime and composite numbers, displaying data and reducing fractions. 

Nixon// A lesson a day. Fractions, 3 digit subtraction, patterns, line segments, calendar work and graphing.

Monday night Reese did her Tuesday math lesson and Nixon was working on his Language Arts with Kylie so they could get up early Tuesday to ski some powder.


HISTORY
Reese + Nixon// Listened to Well Educated Heart, My American Story Book. They are learning about The American Revolution. They listened to beautiful stories. Then jotted down some of their own notes so they could remember the stories they heard about Liberty and Loyalty, Bessie Fisher and Henry and John Laurens. The art they get to use is absolute beautiful from WEH.



LANGUAGE ARTS
Reese// A loop of Good and Beautiful Spelling and writing workshop. Typing lessons. 5 minutes of memorizing glossary terms each day. 1 page in cursive each day. Write one vocabulary definition each day. Ready tricky words each day. Loop of geography+poems. Reese is memorizing a Shel Silverstien poem: Smart

We went to The Morris home this week and we always have an epic Poetry Tea Time.



SCIENCE
Reese// Used her Kiwi Crate and made a spin art machine. She has been having a blast making spin art from a machine SHE made!

Nixon// Used his Kiwi Crate and made a lantern with constellations copied from H.A. Reys Find the Constellations book



ENTREPURSHIP 

Reese// Her class hasn't started yet

TECH
Nixon// Enjoyed setting up this coding robot This is NOT in my wheelhouse of knowledge so I was very nervous but I found comfort in knowing it was for ages 3-8:) and it is the PERFECT first introduction for coding. Nixon, Reese, Crew and Elle all LOVED doing this together.


FINE ARTS
Reese// Piano 5 days a week. She finished a piano theory book and got a reward from her amazing teacher, Mrs. Roskelly.

PE 
Nixon// We got out on the Mountain twice this week to ski. It is always a blessing to be out on the mountain and we feel so blessed to do it as a family. Right now Nixon is working on his 180.
